Banker for more than 24 years, outstanding member of some teams leading some top banks, Mirela Iovu has contributed, significantly, in the last 14 years, to the process of transforming the oldest bank in Romania into a commercial bank, having an essential role in creating an organizational culture appropriate to the implementation of the new business strategy, in implementing a corporate governance according to best practices, and, inter alia, laid the foundations of the compliance function, developed the bank's legal services, established and developed the "laboratory" of banking products and services, building the pillars of development and digital transformation.
Mirela Iovu holds a PhD in Law from the Faculty of Law, Bucharest, and a Bachelor's degree in Law from the Faculty of Law at the "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu. She also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from City University of Seattle, USA and a Postgraduate Degree in Governance, Risk and Compliance - ICA Professional Postgraduate Diploma in Governance, Risk and Compliance - from the International Compliance Association (ICA) in cooperation with The University of Manchester-Manchester Business School, recently specializing in Financial Inclusion policies at Harvard Kennedy School.
She attended several courses and internships at national and international level, in areas such as: mediation and other methods of alternative dispute resolution, compliance, internal governance, risk management, capital markets, financial and business restructuring, anti-fraud, business intelligence, digital banking & disruptive technologies, being also an active member in several technical commissions of the Romanian Association of Banks, and since May 2007 he is the representative of the banking community as a permanent member in the Legal Support Group of the European Payment Council (EPC) on the project Single European Payment Area (SEPA).
Mirela Iovu is President of the Association of In-House Lawyers from the Financial-Banking System, founding member and Secretary General of the European League for Economic Cooperation - ELEC, Romanian Chapter, as well as member of many other associations and civic and industrial think-tank groups.
